Printemps New York

Printemps, the iconic 159-year-old Parisian luxury department store, has opened its first U.S. location in New York City. Situated in a historic Art Deco skyscraper at One Wall Street in the heart of the Financial District, the 55,000-square-foot flagship redefines the retail experience. Spanning two floors, the store offers a unique mix of merchandise, including clothing, accessories, home décor, and cosmetics, as well as a fine dining restaurant and a café serving French pastries. A quarter of the store is dedicated to exclusive French brands available only at Printemps.

Designed by acclaimed architect Laura Gonzalez, the store’s interior transports visitors to a dreamlike Parisian apartment, featuring sweeping pink marble staircases, Art Nouveau frescos, and a two-story mirrored wall inspired by Coco Chanel. Each section of the store has its own distinct ambiance. For instance, the iconic Red Room, with its mesmerizing 33-foot-tall Art Deco mosaic ceilings, has been transformed into an enchanting shoe salon, where shoppers can browse footwear or enjoy a glass of wine at a nearby bar. The men’s department, Garconniere, is situated by a display of vintage furniture curated by Gonzalez, while the Bordouir showcases new and vintage eveningwear for both women and men, including an exhibition of Jean Paul Gaultier pieces for the opening.

While brick-and-mortar retail faced challenges in recent years, post-pandemic, consumer interest in in-person shopping has made a strong return. However, the shopping experience now needs to offer more than just transactions. Printemps’ store is designed to encourage exploration and discovery, with an emphasis on creating a welcoming, homey feel that focuses on hospitality. By creating an immersive experience blending history, luxury, and modern retail trends, the carefully curated atmosphere and exclusive offerings make it a destination for both shopping and experiencing something truly special.
